Myra
met Jack Johnson in 1971 while they were both working for the telephone
company in McAllen, Texas. Their romance began when Jack joined the
faith-centered folk group Myra sang with. Less than a year later
they were married in the Lutheran church Jack grew up in. (Jack's a PK,
by the way--"preacher's kid.") After 30 years with SBC, Jack retired and is now a
part-time telecommunications
power consultant, which gives him lots of extra time to play "house
husband" while Myra concentrates on her writing. The Johnsons have two lovely daughters, both married,
four rambunctious grandsons , and a precious little granddaughter.
Strong believers in giving back to the community, Myra and Jack are
former volunteers at SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Center. They
served for 7 years, prior to relocating to Oklahoma in 2006; both earned
Volunteer of the Year recognition (read more about SIRE at the link
below). A late-blooming equestrian, Myra has
taken dressage lessons and still cherishes the childhood dream of
someday owning her own horse. Other interests include reading, amateur
photography, and the family pets: Gracie, a yellow Labrador mix; Shadow,
a cuddly black border collie; and Sprite, a lost parakeet found in their
backyard.
The
Johnsons remain active members of the Lutheran church in their
community, and especially enjoy participating in the handbell choir.
